Excitation mode for DC electric motor

Excitation mode refers to the way of producing magnetic field in rotating motor, and the excitation mode of DC motor is divided into four kinds:


Separately excited DC motor

No connection between the excitation winding and the armature winding, and the other by the DC power supply of DC motor excitation winding power supply called excited DC motor, permanent magnet DC motor can also be seen as excited or self-excited DC motor, generally called for permanent magnet direct excitation mode.


Shunt excited DC motor

DC shunt motor excitation winding and armature winding are connected in parallel, and as a generator, is the terminal voltage of motor itself from the excitation winding power supply; as the shunt motor, excitation winding and the armature share the same power supply, from a performance perspective with the same excited DC motor.


Series excited DC motor

Compound DC motor

Two excitation windings with shunt excitation and series excitation of compound excitation DC motor. If the flux potential produced by the series winding is the same as the flux direction generated by the shunt winding, it is called the product compound excitation. If the two magnetomotive force in the opposite direction, it is called differential compound.
